New officers sworn in during Elkhart Police Department hiring event

Elkhart, IN – The Elkhart Police Department welcomed two new officers during a recent Police Merit Commission meeting, marking what officials described as a celebratory hiring day for the agency.

During the ceremony, Mayor Rod Roberson administered the oath of office to Patrolman Paul Leonard and Patrolman Nicholas Burden, officially adding them to the department’s ranks.

Leonard joins the department as a lateral hire, having previously graduated from the Arizona Law Enforcement Academy. Burden, a new officer, is a graduate of Northridge High School and is beginning his law enforcement career with the agency.

Both officers have also served in the United States Armed Forces, bringing additional experience and dedication to their new roles.

Department officials expressed enthusiasm about the additions, welcoming the officers and offering congratulations as they begin their service with the Elkhart Police Department.
