Elkhart Firefighters Local 338 responded to technical rescue incident after vehicle struck building

Elkhart, IN –  The Elkhart Firefighters Local 338 responded to a technical rescue incident on March 19, 2026, after a vehicle crash caused significant structural damage to a building.

At approximately 6:30 p.m., units were dispatched to the 2800 block of Cassopolis Street for reports of an accident with injuries. Upon arrival, Medic 24 reported heavy damage to the structure, prompting a full Technical Rescue Team (TRT) response.

Officials said crews utilized specialized shoring equipment to stabilize the building before working to safely remove the vehicle involved in the crash. The operation lasted approximately two and a half hours.

Fire crews remained on scene until the structure was secured, ensuring the area was safe following the incident. Multiple units responded, including B106, Fire Unit 19, Engine 7, Medic 24, Medic 25, Squad 1, Squad 2, and Truck 18.
