Elkhart, IN – The Elkhart Police Department shared an update from the City regarding ongoing construction work along Jackson Street as part of a larger infrastructure project.
According to the City of Elkhart, Indiana – Municipal Government, crews are continuing work to separate stormwater and sanitary sewer systems along Jackson Street between Main Street and Waterfall Drive. The project is required under federal guidelines and is aimed at preventing sewage overflow into local waterways during heavy rain.
Officials said the Jackson Street bridge will remain open and Waterfall Drive accessible during portions of the work, although periodic closures are expected. However, both the Jackson Street bridge and Waterfall Drive are scheduled to be fully inaccessible from Tuesday through Friday next week.
The construction project is being completed in multiple phases. Phase 1, which runs from early March through June, includes work on Jackson Boulevard from Waterfall Drive through Main Street. Additional phases will continue through September and December, extending work further along Jackson Boulevard and nearby streets.
City officials noted that construction timelines may change due to unforeseen conditions and asked for patience as the improvements are completed.
