Elkhart man charged after fleeing in stolen vehicle

Elkhart, IN – The Elkhart Police Department reported that a 19-year-old man was arrested and charged after fleeing from officers in a stolen vehicle on Sunday, Aug. 24, 2025.

Around 9:53 a.m., an officer spotted a Honda CR-V near South 11th Street and West Indiana Avenue that had been flagged in a FLOCK alert as stolen. The officer attempted a traffic stop, but the driver fled. Officers later located the vehicle abandoned on Compton Street near West Garfield Avenue. A firearm and suspected marijuana were found inside. Police confirmed the vehicle had been reported stolen to the Milwaukee Police Department.

About 10:00 a.m., officers located a man matching the suspect’s description in the 1400 block of Delaware Street. After briefly running from officers, he was detained in the 1200 block of Delaware Street.

The suspect, identified as Trevon Loston, 19, of Elkhart, was booked into the Elkhart County Jail. The Elkhart County Prosecutor’s Office charged him with:

  • Unlawful possession of a handgun (Level 5 felony)

  • Resisting law enforcement with a vehicle (Level 6 felony)

  • Possession of marijuana (Class B misdemeanor)

A judicial officer set his bond at $5,000.

Police noted that under Indiana law, an individual is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
